Need help with the Aqara H2 switches please

Just had an electrician install three H2 wall switches for me.

One added to the Aqara app just fine.

Shows in there, and in Apple home.

Next one, well I think I need to get the electrician back.

If the first one is on, the second has no power. If I turn the first one off, the second has power.

They were part of a two way switch circuit.

Unless anyone knows of a setting I can use that would solve this?

The third one is where I need help, although the second is acting the same.

I cannot add it to the Aqara app.

If I follow the settings to reset the device, the blue lights do flash for a moment.

But it does not appear when searching in the Aqara app to add.

It is in Apple home however, shows it as a child device of my M100. But in the Aqara app nothing, it’s not added, my total devices has not increased, and the M100 does not show it as a child device.

Anyone know what I can do?

Both failed whilst trying to turn to Zigbee mode if it helps, said I do not have permission?

@Expert Hi, can you guys check this? Thanks!

Hello, to help and assist you it would be great if we have a small diagram of how the lights operate originally.

The switches can operate in one of 2 ways:-

Button press toggles the relay and therefore cuts the power to the lights, in a single switch operation this is great but when you have 2 or 3 way lighting this would cut the power to the 2nd ,3rd switch until that switch is operated.

In a scenario you have it initially feels like you’ve got multi way switching of a light or group of lights from multiple switches.

Do you know if you have neutral in your light switches?

Give us some details and I’m sure the community can assist.

When the electrician is there, take a photo of the finished wiring so we can take a look at it. Or, if you feel confident doing so, turn off the power, remove all the covers, and take a photo yourself. Or, as David said, a small diagram of how the lights originally operated.

If it is displayed as a child device of the hub, I would assume that it has already been added to the hub in Zigbee mode because it will only be displayed as a child device if it has been added in this way. Could you please provide some more information on how and where you connected the devices?

Hi I believe I answered your question on Reddit. The 3-way switch installation with two H2 switches requires neutral, most 3-way installations (except maybe in America) don’t have it.

While the H2 can work without neutral, it allows a little bit of current to work, even in the OFF setting. This little current unfortunately won’t power any other smart switch in the circuit (like a second H2 switch).

But you can replace one of the switches with a wireless button (and just twist/connect wires in place of the smart switch), then it will work

Hi,

Waiting for the electrician to come to take a look. But based on all the responses so far, I know it’s two switches that controlled one light - so makes sense that the power is being cut off to it.
I’ll get the electrician to take one out of the circuit and put it somewhere else.

As for the connection issue.
The first one I connected via the magic discovery. Added to the m2 hub.

The second and third, I first used magic discovery, tried to add to the m100 hub. Both “failed” when running the zigbee change over, an error popped up saying I do not have permission. Then they no longer appear on magic discovery.
Holding the switch as per instructions does not appear to reset them as they still do not appear discoverable.
The m100 in its standard view shows 23 child devices.
If I go in connected ecosystems setting, and select HomeKit, it shows as having 25 child devices, and both the switches are in there.
So somehow in one place it acknowledges they are connected, but in the main pages of the app it doesn’t.

I’m confused why the electrician thought he could do this and it would work.

to be honest it sounds like you hired the wrong electriction, in a 2 way switch scenario the other switch should be live when other is off still, the only thing I can think has happened here is that he has put the live on the one that dont work on the output rather than input.

its a simple fix of swapping the live connections around in the effected switch, but if you paid him to fit, he should be fixing free of charge.
