Hi all,
I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation recently, and I’ve got to say, it’s been both exciting and a bit challenging. Today, I want to share some of my experiences and hopefully get some insights from the community.
First off, I’ve been working with a NEO Smart Home Motion Sensor (Model #NAS-PD01) on my OpenHAB setup. The sensor itself is great—it’s reliable and detects motion without any issues. However, I’ve run into a snag when trying to integrate it fully. While the temperature sensor works perfectly, the motion detection and luminance channels are returning NULL values. It’s a bit puzzling because the LED on the sensor flashes when motion is detected, so I know it’s working. I’ve tried debugging through the Z-Wave protocol, and the logs show that the sensor is indeed sending data, but for some reason, only the temperature channel is registering. I’m not entirely sure what the next step should be, so any advice would be appreciated!
On another note, I’ve been experimenting with integrating Hue lights with LIFX strips. My wife and I are really into creating the perfect ambiance, and the LIFX strips seem like a great addition for their brightness and zoning capabilities. However, I’m curious about how well they’ll integrate with our existing Hue setup. Specifically, I’d love to know about the latency when triggering both Hue and LIFX lights simultaneously. Is there a noticeable delay? Also, how easy is it to match colors between the two brands? And what about apps like Circadian Daylight—are they exclusive to Hue, or can LIFX users enjoy similar features?
Lastly, I’ve been working on setting up a virtual 3-way switch for our kitchen pendant lights. The goal is to have a switch at the entranceway for convenience. I’ve installed a Leviton DZ6HD dimmer and a VRCS1-1LZ scene controller, but I’m having trouble getting the controller to work seamlessly with my SmartThings setup. I’ve heard that minimotes can help, but they seem to be discontinued. Any alternative solutions or tips would be fantastic!
Overall, it’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to continue exploring the possibilities of smart home automation. Thanks in advance for any advice or insights you can share!
