I’ve been thoroughly impressed with my Nest Gen3 Learning Thermostat, especially its ability to learn my schedule and adjust temperatures accordingly. However, I’ve noticed a small inconvenience that I’d love to address. When returning from a long trip, say 10 days away, the thermostat doesn’t seem to anticipate my arrival and start heating the house in advance. This is particularly frustrating after a long, cold drive home. I’m curious if there’s a feature or setting I’ve missed that could enable this functionality.
I’ve noticed that Google Maps on my Pixel 8 Pro already knows my ETA and adjusts my calendar accordingly. It seems logical that this data could be integrated into the thermostat’s system. If such a feature doesn’t exist, I’d love to hear why the thermostat waits until I’m already home to switch back to the ‘Home’ schedule.
In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with third-party integrations like IFTTT and SmartThings to bridge this gap. For instance, setting up a workflow that triggers the thermostat to start heating a few hours before my expected arrival time based on my location. While this workaround isn’t perfect, it’s a step in the right direction.
I’d love to hear if anyone else has encountered this issue or has a more seamless solution. Let’s brainstorm together and see if we can make the most of our smart home devices! Thanks for your insights!
