Hey everyone, I recently encountered an issue with my Nest thermostat that I wanted to share and get some advice on. For years, I’ve relied on the thermostat’s location tracking to automatically switch between home and away modes based on my phone’s location or motion detection. However, over the past few weeks, it seems the thermostat only recognizes me as home when I physically walk in front of it. If I spend hours in my office, the heating stops until I walk up to the thermostat, which then ‘wakes up’ and starts heating again. This is quite inconvenient, especially during colder months.\Earlier today, I experienced this firsthand. We left the house, and the thermostat went into away mode. When I returned, the thermostat detected me at 11:51am, but the HVAC system didn’t turn on. The house was cold, so I had to walk up to the thermostat at 12:27pm for it to realize there was activity and start heating. This issue didn’t occur for years, and I haven’t made any changes to the app or settings.\Looking into the details, I noticed that the thermostat received an update on March 27, 2025. I’m 95% confident this update caused the issue, as the problem started shortly after. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with the Nest thermostat after recent updates? Any suggested next steps would be greatly appreciated!\Thanks in advance for your help and insights!
