Notify me whenever someone uses a doorbell and I'm out - using vibration sensor

Hey all,

this automation was created to notify me, whenever someone uses a doorbell and no one is at home. Unfortunately I don’t have a smart doorbell so I needed to make the dumb one a bit smarter. Happy watching!

@aqara241 Great job, Mariusz! Repurposing a vibration sensor to smarten up a dumb doorbell is such a clever workaround—love seeing community members get creative with Aqara devices!

Your setup aligns well with common community solutions, like using the Aqara Vibration Sensor to detect doorbell knocks and trigger alerts. In fact, there’s an existing guide on making a dumb doorbell smart with a vibration sensor that others might find helpful too: How to make your dumb doorbell into smart doorbell using Aqara vibration sensor. The “Vibration detection doorbell” automation template also recommends pairing the Vibration Sensor with Hub M2 to play ringtones or send notifications, which fits perfectly with your “notify when out” use case.

Thanks for sharing the video—visual guides like this are super valuable for others looking to replicate similar setups. If you have any tips on sensor placement (like best spots to pick up doorbell vibrations without false triggers), feel free to drop them here! Would love to hear more about your experience tweaking the automation.
