Optimizing Battery Life in Aeon Labs Multi Sensor

I recently installed six Aeon Labs Multi Sensors in my home, and I’m really impressed with their versatility. However, I wanted to optimize their battery life since I don’t need all the sensors to be active at the same time. Here’s what I’ve learned and how I approached this challenge.

First, I realized that turning off unused sensors could significantly extend battery life. I discovered that each sensor allows you to disable specific features like temperature, humidity, or motion detection through the settings menu. This was a great start!

Next, I focused on the motion sensor settings. Since I’m using these sensors to trigger ventilation systems that run for eight hours, I wondered if adjusting the motion reset time could help conserve battery. After some research, I found that setting the motion sensor to a longer reset time, like 15 minutes, didn’t negatively impact performance but did help reduce unnecessary wake-ups.

I also explored the polling and wakeup intervals. Initially, I was confused about how these settings affected battery life, but after some experimentation, I learned that increasing the reporting interval to every 30 minutes (or even an hour) didn’t compromise the functionality of the sensors. This adjustment has made a noticeable difference in battery longevity.

One thing I’m still curious about is the best way to handle RH/temp data collection. I’m considering whether a 30-minute interval is sufficient or if I can stretch it further without losing important data. Any additional insights from the community would be greatly appreciated!

Overall, this project has been a fantastic learning experience. By tweaking settings and understanding how each feature impacts battery life, I’ve been able to create a more efficient system. It’s amazing how a little optimization can make such a big difference!

If anyone has tips or tricks for further optimizing these sensors, I’d love to hear them. Let’s continue to share knowledge and improve our smart home setups together!
