Optimizing Battery Life with Home Assistant

Hey everyone, I’ve been really impressed with how Home Assistant has transformed my smart home setup. However, I’ve noticed something that’s been on my mind lately—battery life on my iOS devices seems to drain faster than I’d like, especially when the Home Assistant companion app is running in the background. I’ve been trying to figure out why this is happening and how to optimize it without compromising the functionality I love so much.

I’ve noticed that the app shows around 15 minutes of background activity per hour, which adds up over time. Even when everything is quiet and there’s little activity, the app still seems to be working in the background. I’ve tried force-closing the app a few times, and sometimes restarting Home Assistant helps, but it’s not a consistent fix. I’m curious if others have experienced this and if there are any tips or tricks to reduce the background activity without losing the convenience of real-time updates.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the logs show regular WebSocket pings, which I assume are part of the app’s normal operation to maintain connectivity. But I’m not entirely sure if this level of activity is normal or if there’s a way to tweak the settings to make it more battery-friendly. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s managed to balance functionality with battery efficiency—whether it’s through specific app settings, server configurations, or even hardware adjustments.

If anyone has any insights or strategies they’ve used to optimize battery life while still getting the most out of Home Assistant, I’d be really grateful to hear about them. Let’s keep the conversation going and see if we can find some solutions together!

Cheers,
