Hey everyone, I’m running Home Assistant Core on a Raspberry Pi 3B using Docker, and I’ve noticed that my 8GB SD card is getting pretty full. After doing some digging, I found that the /var/lib/docker/overlay2 directory is taking up a significant amount of space—around 4.2GB! I’m not sure why this is happening, but I suspect it’s related to how Docker handles container storage.I’ve tried wiping the overlay2 folder as a drastic measure, and it does free up space temporarily. However, when I restart the Home Assistant container, the overlays are recreated, and the space issue comes back. I’m considering switching to Home Assistant Supervised to see if that helps, but I’m not sure if it will use the same amount of storage. For now, I’m keeping my setup simple with integrations like MQTT, Z-Wave, and Google Cast. My Docker setup includes the Home Assistant and Mosquitto images, and I’m running a bare Raspbian headless OS. I’m wondering if there are any best practices for managing Docker storage on a Raspberry Pi to prevent this from happening again. If anyone has tips on optimizing Docker storage or experiences with moving to Supervised mode, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the discussion positive and helpful for everyone trying to make the most of their smart home setups. ![]()
