Optimizing Energy Usage with Hubitat: My Journey and Tips

As energy costs continue to rise, I’ve been on a mission to make my home as energy-efficient as possible. Hubitat has been an incredible tool in this journey, and I’d love to share some of my experiences and tips with the community! :earth_africa::bulb:

1. Automating Standby Power Off: One of the biggest energy drains in any home is standby power. I’ve started using INNR zigbee plugs to control devices that aren’t in use. With Hubitat, I’ve set up a routine where all these devices are powered off when I declare “Goodnight.” This simple change has already made a noticeable difference in my energy bills. :stop_sign::electric_plug:

2. Migrating to Energy-Efficient Devices: My home theater setup was a major energy consumer, so I decided to upgrade. I migrated from a power-hungry Drobo array and an older iMac to a more efficient M1 Mac mini with external HDDs. This change is expected to cut my daily energy usage from 3.5kW to around 1.5kW—a significant saving! :desktop_computer::zap:

3. Exploring Future Energy Solutions: Looking ahead, I’m planning to install solar panels and a whole-house battery in my next home. I’m curious to know how others are using Hubitat to manage energy consumption and integrate renewable solutions. Any insights or experiences would be invaluable! :sun_with_face::battery:

4. Community Collaboration: I’d love to hear how others are optimizing their energy usage with Hubitat. Whether it’s through smart plugs, automation rules, or device upgrades, sharing strategies could help us all save money and reduce our carbon footprint. Let’s work together to make our homes smarter and greener! :handshake::seedling:
