I’ve been working on integrating my Senec DUO V3 Hybrid battery system with Tibber to optimize my energy consumption, and I wanted to share my progress and findings with the community. This project has been a fascinating journey, and I hope it can inspire others looking to enhance their home energy management.
My setup includes a PV system with a Senec DUO V3 Hybrid, which I’ve upgraded to provide around 14 kWh of battery capacity. I recently switched to Tibber, utilizing their Smart Meter Gateway for hourly energy consumption updates. My goal was to automate the charging of my Senec batteries during low-price periods, as well as implement time-based charging schedules.
Initially, I explored Solaranzeige.de, which offered some useful features but proved too complex for my needs. The Senec binding didn’t support the required functionality, so I turned to the Senec API Gateway. By analyzing the commands sent to the system, I was able to create a set of OpenHAB rules that allow me to control the battery charging schedule effectively.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been developing frontend examples and Grafana dashboards to monitor the system in real-time. These tools provide a clear overview of energy flow and charging status, which is invaluable for optimizing performance.
I also created a debugging interface within habpanel, which helps me simulate different pricing scenarios and test various conditions to ensure everything works as expected. This has been instrumental in fine-tuning the system to meet my energy goals.
While I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, I’m always looking for ways to improve. For instance, I’m considering integrating my wallbox and heating system to further enhance energy efficiency. If anyone has insights or suggestions on how to expand this setup, I’d love to hear them!
This project has been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to continue refining it. If you’re interested in replicating or adapting this setup, I’ve shared my configuration on GitHub. Feel free to reach out with questions or feedback—I’d be happy to help!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of smart home energy management together! ![]()
