Optimizing Home Assistant for Seamless Smart Fan Control

Hello fellow Home Assistant enthusiasts! I wanted to share my recent journey in optimizing my smart fan setup after upgrading to the latest Hassio. While the update brought many exciting features, it also introduced some quirks, particularly with my Jasco Z-Wave fan switches.

Previously, I could simply say, ‘Hey Google, set the ceiling fan to low,’ and it worked flawlessly. Now, it requires a percentage input, which has been a bit of a learning curve for my family. I’ve been researching ways to restore the simplicity we once had.

One thing I discovered is the importance of preset modes for devices. While my fan switches don’t natively support these, I’m exploring whether custom modes can be created through the Lovelace interface or even through integrations like MQTT. I’d love to hear if anyone has successfully implemented something similar or has tips on how to approach this.

Another aspect I’ve been tinkering with is the integration of Google Assistant with Home Assistant. It’s incredible how much smoother things run when everything is seamlessly connected. I’m curious if others have encountered similar issues with device controls post-upgrade and how they’ve navigated these changes.

If anyone has insights or solutions, especially regarding preset modes or voice command optimizations, I’d be grateful for the advice! Let’s continue to leverage the power of Home Assistant to make our smart homes even smarter. :rocket:
