Optimizing Irrigation with Weather Data – My Experience

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my journey with setting up a weather-based irrigation system. It’s been a fantastic project that’s really transformed how I manage my garden. I’ve always struggled with overwatering or underwatering, especially with the unpredictable weather we’ve been having lately.

I came across a solution that uses Home Assistant to automatically adjust watering based on actual weather conditions. It’s been a game-changer! The system uses data from OpenWeatherMap to calculate evapotranspiration and rain levels, adjusting the irrigation duration accordingly. On hotter days, it waters more, and if it rains, it skips watering altogether.

Setting it up was a bit technical, but I found some great resources online. I used a Sonoff 4-channel relay to control my sprinklers and integrated everything into Home Assistant with some custom components. The best part is that it’s all automated, so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

If anyone is interested in trying something similar, I’d be happy to share my setup details or help troubleshoot any issues you might run into. It’s been a rewarding project, and I love seeing my garden thrive without manual intervention. Happy gardening! :seedling::sparkles:
