Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’m reaching out to share an interesting challenge I’ve encountered with my motion sensor setup and to gather your insights on how to optimize it further.
Here’s the scenario: I’ve installed an entrance sensor that triggers a scene to turn on the hallway and kitchen lights when motion is detected. This works perfectly when we first enter the house. However, after about 10 minutes, the entrance sensor detects no motion and triggers a scene to turn off the lights. The issue arises because the kitchen sensor, which was previously tripped, doesn’t immediately reactivate the lights since it’s still in an active state. This means we have to wait for it to reset and trip again, which isn’t ideal.
I’ve been experimenting with the idea of having the scene ignore the entrance sensor’s idle command if the kitchen sensor is already active. I’m wondering if there’s a way to implement a counter that resets every time a sensor is tripped. This could potentially solve the problem by ensuring the lights stay on when someone is still in the kitchen.
Has anyone encountered a similar situation or implemented a solution like this? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips or tricks you’ve picked up along the way. Let’s brainstorm together and find a way to make this setup as seamless as possible!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions. Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
