Hi everyone, I hope you’re all having a great day! I wanted to share my experience with using multiple smart home hubs and how I’ve managed to streamline my setup for a seamless experience.
As some of you might know, I’ve been experimenting with integrating various smart devices from different brands into my home. Initially, I found myself using several hubs to manage everything, which led to a bit of chaos. I had 2 SmartThings Hubs, 2 Switchbot Hubs, a Hue Bridge, a Tuya Hub, and a FritzBox Hub—that’s a total of 5 hubs! While each served a specific purpose, managing them all started to feel overwhelming.
I decided to take a step back and evaluate whether all these hubs were truly necessary. My goal was to reduce the number of hubs while maintaining functionality. Here’s what I discovered:
- Consolidation: I realized that some hubs could be replaced by more versatile devices. For example, the SmartThings Hub was already handling Matter integration, so I could phase out some of the other hubs that were redundant.
- Specialized Hubs: The Hue Bridge and Switchbot Hub (used as an IR blaster) were essential for their specific functions, so I kept them.
- Integration: By ensuring all hubs were connected via Matter to the SmartThings Hub, I was able to centralize control without sacrificing the unique capabilities of each device.
This process taught me the importance of planning and evaluating each device’s role in the ecosystem. While it’s tempting to add more hubs for flexibility, streamlining can lead to a more efficient and user-friendly setup.
I’d love to hear your experiences! How many hubs do you use, and have you found ways to optimize your setup? Let’s discuss and share tips for a smoother smart home experience! ![]()
