After spending several weeks setting up my new Homey Pro 2023, I’ve been on a quest to optimize my Zigbee network. Currently, I have 66 Zigbee devices from Aqara, IKEA, and Philips Hue, along with over 40 light bulbs connected to my Hue bridge. While the setup is functional, I’ve noticed some hiccups, especially with device connectivity and network stability.
One of the key areas I’ve been focusing on is the number of routers in my network. Right now, I only have 7 routers, which seems insufficient for handling 66 devices. I’ve read that Aqara devices, which make up 3 of my routers, might not be the best performers in this role. This has led me to explore other brands that could provide better routing capabilities. If anyone has recommendations for reliable routers, especially from Dutch webshops, I’d be grateful for the insights!
Another consideration is whether to move some of my Philips Hue bulbs from the Hue bridge to Homey. I’m curious about the pros and cons of this approach and how it might affect my overall network performance.
In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with adding more routers and adjusting the placement of existing devices to improve coverage. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but seeing the network stabilize has been rewarding. I’m also looking into potential upgrades or modifications, like external antennas, to further enhance performance.
Overall, this journey has taught me the importance of a well-structured network in ensuring a seamless smart home experience. I’m excited to continue tweaking and refining my setup to make it even better!
