I’ve been working on a project to integrate my radiant heating system with smart thermostats, and I wanted to share my experience and some questions I have along the way. My setup includes two radiant zones at opposite ends of a large area, each controlled by a separate thermostat. The valve controller I’m using is a Taco ZVC-405, which unfortunately doesn’t allow me to jumper between zones directly. This means I have two thermostats in the same space, which complicates things a bit.
My goal is to create a rule where if one thermostat starts heating, it triggers the other to heat as well, regardless of the temperature reading on the secondary thermostat. This way, I can ensure consistent heating throughout the entire area without manually adjusting both thermostats. I’ve heard that other automation systems have achieved this kind of functionality, so I’m curious if it’s possible with my current setup.
I’ve considered using sensors and relays to achieve this, but I’m hoping there’s a smarter way to do it through rules or automation software. If anyone has experience with similar setups or knows of a way to implement this, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
On another note, I’ve also been exploring the idea of using a single thermostat as the master depending on the temperature at each end of the area. This would allow me to switch which thermostat is in control based on real-time conditions. I’m wondering if this is feasible and how I might go about setting it up.
Overall, I’m excited to see how smart thermostats and automation can improve my heating system’s efficiency and comfort. I’m looking forward to any insights or suggestions the community might have!
