As a busy parent, I rely heavily on my Homey system to keep track of daily tasks. One of the most useful features I’ve set up is the reminder flow for school-related items. However, I recently encountered a flaw in the system that I wanted to share and discuss with the community.
The flow I’ve created sends a push notification at 7:45 AM on Fridays between the 24th and 31st of the month. The idea is to remind me to pack school toys and swim gear. While this works most of the time, I noticed that if a month has a Friday on the 24th and another on the 31st, the reminder goes off twice, which is unnecessary. I tried adjusting the day range, but it didn’t solve the issue completely.
After some research, I found that using a more dynamic date calculation could help. Instead of setting a fixed range, I considered using the end of the month as a reference point. This way, the reminder would only trigger once, regardless of how many Fridays fall within the specified range. While I haven’t implemented this yet, I’m curious to hear if others have encountered similar issues and how they resolved them.
In the meantime, I’ve been manually adjusting the reminder dates, which isn’t ideal but works for now. I’m hoping to find a more efficient solution that automates this process without the need for constant manual intervention. If anyone has any tips or alternative approaches, I’d love to hear them!
Overall, while the reminder system has been a lifesaver, these occasional hiccups remind me of the importance of fine-tuning even the most useful features. It’s a great learning experience, and I’m excited to see how the community can collectively improve these functionalities.
