Recently, I’ve been working on optimizing my smart home setup to ensure that notifications are both useful and non-intrusive. After supporting over 850 devices across multiple sites, I’ve learned a few tricks that might be helpful to others in the community.
One key takeaway is balancing the notification settings to avoid email overload while still ensuring critical issues are escalated promptly. For example, enabling notifications for Critical and Warning categories has proven effective, while Informational notifications are often better handled through the device’s native interface rather than email.
I’ve also found that adjusting the Delay period and Repeat Interval can significantly reduce unnecessary alerts. A 5-minute delay before sending a notification and a 15-minute repeat interval seem to strike the right balance for most devices. Additionally, setting a limit on the number of notifications after the initial alert helps prevent spamming during prolonged issues.
For those managing notifications through EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert (DCE), it’s important to note that while it offers comprehensive monitoring, it can complicate things by introducing too many notification types. Sticking to device-level management might be a better approach for maintaining simplicity and control.
If you have any tips or best practices for managing smart home notifications, I’d love to hear them! Let’s share our experiences and continue improving our smart home setups together.
