Optimizing Smart Home System Latency

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience optimizing latency in my smart home system. After encountering delays with my Wyze Cam Outdoor WVOD1, I decided to dive deep into the issue and find a solution. The camera was taking over 10 seconds to show a live image, which was quite frustrating.

I started by examining my network setup. The camera was connected to a dedicated 500+ Mbps 2.4 GHz modem with minimal devices connected, so bandwidth wasn’t the issue. I adjusted the image quality to 480p, but the delay persisted.

After some research, I realized the problem might be with the camera’s placement and signal strength. I moved it closer to the router and ensured it was on the same channel. This improved the video latency significantly, reducing it to just a couple of seconds.

I also explored the camera’s advanced settings and found that enabling the ‘Low Latency Mode’ option made a big difference. Additionally, I updated the camera’s firmware to the latest version, which further stabilized the connection.

This experience taught me the importance of thorough network optimization and firmware updates. If you’re facing similar issues, I highly recommend checking your camera’s placement, adjusting settings, and ensuring all firmware is up to date. It’s amazing how these small tweaks can make such a big impact! :rocket:
