Optimizing Smart Lighting and Camera Setup for Enhanced Security

Hello everyone, I’m excited to share my recent journey in optimizing my smart home setup, particularly focusing on lighting and security cameras. I’ve been using Wyze cameras and smart lighting for a while now, and while they’ve been great, I wanted to take things up a notch for better functionality and security.

Lighting Optimization
I recently upgraded my bathroom lighting system to include motion-activated LED spots. The goal was to ensure that the lights come on softly during nighttime use, avoiding the harsh glare that can be disruptive. I replaced my non-dimmable LED drivers with Zigbee-compatible dimmable ones and integrated a smart motion sensor. This setup allows me to control the brightness via flows, ensuring a gentle 20% light when motion is detected at night. However, I’m still on the hunt for compatible drivers and sensors that work seamlessly with my Homey system. If anyone has recommendations or success stories, I’d love to hear them!

Wyze Camera Enhancements
Speaking of security, I’ve been exploring ways to enhance my Wyze Cam V3 setup. The new Spotlight Kit has been a game-changer for night vision, providing crisp video even in complete darkness. I’ve also been experimenting with motion detection zones and notifications. One challenge I’ve encountered is occasional false triggers, especially during windy conditions. I’m curious if others have faced similar issues and how they’ve mitigated them.

Modbus Configuration
On the automation front, I’ve been diving into Modbus configurations to integrate my PLC with OpenHAB. While I’ve managed to write values to the PLC’s NOVRAM, I’m encountering polling errors. Specifically, setting the length parameter to anything other than zero results in an error code 3. I’d appreciate any insights or troubleshooting tips from the community. Additionally, I’m exploring ways to disable polling altogether since my current setup doesn’t require it.

Scenes and Automation
Another area I’m focusing on is creating reliable scenes for my Philips Hue lights. I’ve noticed that while scenes work perfectly within the Scenes editor, they don’t trigger the actual lights when activated from the main interface. This inconsistency is puzzling, and I’m hoping someone can shed light on potential fixes or configurations I might have missed.

Tile Integration
Lastly, I’m looking into integrating Tile devices for better asset tracking. I’ve heard great things about Tile’s reliability and integration capabilities with smart home ecosystems. If anyone has experience setting this up or tips for optimizing its performance, I’d be grateful for the advice.

This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, and I’m eager to learn from the community’s collective wisdom. Let’s continue to innovate and enhance our smart homes together!
