As I continue to refine my smart home setup, I’ve been diving into some interesting challenges and discoveries. One area I’ve been particularly focused on is optimizing my lighting system for both convenience and energy efficiency. I’d love to share some of my experiences and insights with the community!
First, I’ve been experimenting with motion sensors in my bathroom. I have two sensors set up: one to detect motion when entering the room and another to specifically monitor activity in the shower. This setup prevents lights from turning on unnecessarily when someone is in the shower, which is a small but impactful improvement. However, I’ve encountered a bit of a brain fart while trying to configure the rules for this setup in my automation system. Specifically, I’m looking for the Additional Motion Sensors to Prevent Turning Off If Active setting in either Rule Machine or Simple Automation. Has anyone else worked with this feature before? I’d love some guidance on where to find this in the latest firmware release!
Another topic I’ve been researching is the recent Z-Wave firmware update to version 3.20. I noticed this option in my VeraLite interface and I’m curious about the potential benefits and drawbacks of upgrading. From what I understand, this update could improve device compatibility and performance, but I want to make sure it’s worth the effort before proceeding. If anyone has experience with this upgrade, I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences!
On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring ways to integrate my smart lighting with other devices in my home. For instance, I’ve been using my RGBWW light strips to create dynamic lighting scenes, and I’m impressed with how versatile they are. However, I’ve noticed a minor quirk when using voice commands to switch between colors and white light modes. The RGB LEDs sometimes retain their previous color when switching back to white, which is a small but noticeable inconvenience. I’ve reached out to Govee about this, but I’d love to hear if others have encountered similar issues or found workarounds.
Lastly, I’ve been inspired by some of the innovative projects I’ve seen in this community, like the Aqara Magic Cube automation blueprint and the custom device handler for Shelly plugs. These examples have motivated me to explore more advanced automation scenarios in my own setup. If anyone has tips or resources for getting started with more complex automations, I’d be thrilled to hear about them!
Overall, I’m thoroughly enjoying the journey of enhancing my smart home, and I’m grateful for the wealth of knowledge and support available in this community. Let’s keep sharing our experiences and learning from one another! ![]()
