Optimizing Vera Performance and Enhancing Home Automation

As I continue to expand my home automation setup, I’ve encountered some interesting challenges and successes worth sharing. My Vera system has been a cornerstone of my smart home, but with over 100 devices, I’ve noticed it occasionally overheats and reboots. I’ve been exploring ways to offload some of the load without investing in another Vera unit. One idea that’s been floating around is running the MiOS/LUUP engine on a Raspberry Pi to handle some of the IP-based plugins. Has anyone successfully implemented this setup? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any potential pitfalls to watch out for!

Another area I’ve been diving into is optimizing my security setup. I recently set up a motion sensor group for my away mode, but I’ve noticed a delay in triggering the alarm after the exit delay. It seems the system requires some time between motion activations, which leaves a window where the property isn’t fully protected. I’d like to configure it so that motion triggers an immediate alarm once the system is armed, regardless of the last detection time. Does anyone know if this is possible and how to achieve it?

On the automation front, I’ve been experimenting with Webex call states to control my Hue lights. Initially, I created multiple automations for each state transition, which quickly became unwieldy. I’ve since streamlined this by consolidating the states into two main automations, reducing redundancy and making the setup more maintainable. If anyone has tips on further simplifying state-based automations, I’d be grateful to hear them!

Lastly, I’ve been exploring energy monitoring with a Shelly EM3. While it provides detailed phase data, integrating it into a single custom sensor for solar power usage has been a hurdle. I’ve managed to create the sensor, but using it as a trigger for device control remains elusive. I’m curious if others have found solutions or workarounds for similar challenges.

Overall, my journey with Vera and home automation has been incredibly rewarding, but it’s always great to connect with the community for insights and advice. Let’s keep the discussions flowing and continue to innovate together!
