Optimizing Zigbee Network Coverage in a Multi-Level Home

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is ensuring reliable Zigbee network coverage across my three-story home. With over 60 devices and two ConBee 2 coordinators, I wanted to share my journey and tips for anyone else tackling similar setups.

Initially, I struggled with getting consistent communication between my Zigbee devices, especially when trying to extend the network across multiple floors. After some research, I discovered the importance of strategically placing routers like the C2531 to bridge gaps in coverage. However, enabling the permit_join feature was a hurdle—I couldn’t find the setting in the deCONZ HA Plugin. Thankfully, I found a workaround by using the CLI tool to toggle the setting, which made adding new devices much smoother.

Another key takeaway was the importance of minimizing interference. By relocating some devices away from areas with heavy Wi-Fi traffic, I noticed a significant improvement in reliability. For those looking to expand their network, I highly recommend experimenting with different placements and using tools like the Zigbee sniffer to monitor network health.

Would love to hear others’ experiences and tips for maintaining a robust Zigbee network in larger homes! :rocket:
