Organizing Devices Across Multiple Locations in Home Assistant

I recently found myself in a situation where I needed to integrate multiple locations into a single Home Assistant instance. I have a primary residence, a vacation home, and even a small office space, each with its own set of smart devices. Organizing all of these in a way that makes automation and daily use seamless has been quite the challenge.

I’ve tried grouping devices by location, but it quickly becomes overwhelming, especially when devices serve similar purposes in different places. For example, both my primary home and vacation home have pool areas, but the devices there are used differently. I’m curious to know if there’s a recommended approach or best practice for structuring such a setup.

One tip I came across was using specific naming conventions for devices based on their location, like ‘Primary_LivingRoom_Light’ or ‘VacationHome_Pool_Sensor’. This has helped a bit, but I’m still struggling with how to handle areas that aren’t strictly indoors, like outdoor patios or gardens.

If anyone has experience with this or knows of a comprehensive guide, I’d love to hear your insights! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create the most efficient smart home setups possible. :house_with_garden::sparkles:
