Outdoor Camera Motion Sensor Settings Tips

I’ve been experimenting with adjusting the motion sensitivity settings on my outdoor cameras, and I thought I’d share what I’ve learned and maybe get some feedback from others who’ve gone through the same process.

Initially, I set my motion sensors to level 5, as that seemed like a good middle ground. But I quickly realized that with the busy street traffic right outside my house, my phone would light up constantly—every car that passed by would trigger the sensor. It was a bit overwhelming, to say the least!

After a few days of dealing with near-constant notifications, I decided to lower the sensitivity to level 4. But then, I noticed that the sensors barely registered anything. It was frustrating because the whole point of having these cameras is to be alerted when something unusual happens, like someone approaching the house or packages being delivered.

I ended up settling on level 5 for most of my cameras, especially the ones facing areas with less foot traffic. For the camera on the side of my house, where the street is busiest, I kept it at level 4 to avoid the constant alerts. It’s a bit of a balancing act, but it’s working better now.

One thing I’ve noticed is the importance of ensuring the cameras are properly positioned and that there’s no obstructions blocking their view. Even with the right sensitivity settings, if the camera isn’t aimed correctly, it won’t detect motion effectively.

I’d love to hear how others have tackled this issue. Do you find that certain times of day require different sensitivity levels? Or have you found a particular setting that works universally well for your setup? Let’s share our experiences and tips!
