Hello everyone, I’m currently researching outdoor IP cameras for my small backyard and came across Home Assistant (HA) as a potential solution. I’m not yet an HA user, but I’m intrigued by its capabilities. Here’s what I’m looking for in a camera:
- PT(Z) Functionality: To cover the entire area without needing multiple cameras.
- Power via Cable: No need for batteries, ensuring reliability.
- IR LEDs: For clear night vision.
- Motion Sensor with Auto-Tracking: To detect and follow movement effectively.
- Good Image Quality: Real HD1080 would be ideal.
My main concern is avoiding cloud dependency or subscription models. I’ve heard about RTSP and ONVIF, but I’m not sure if ONVIF alone is sufficient. If I go with HA, what can I expect in terms of integration? Can I view live feeds, review past footage, manage the local SD card, or even stream directly to a network drive? How about notifications for motion detection without relying on the cloud?
I have some technical background, including a 24/7 Ubuntu server running Docker containers. My most significant home automation project so far was a watering system using ESP8266 and Node.js. I’m excited to explore how HA can enhance my setup and would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
Best regards,
