Outdoor Lighting Installation Experience and Automation Setup

Just wanted to share my recent experience with installing outdoor permanent lights and walkway lights! It’s been a fun project that I’ve been looking forward to for a while. The anticipation of seeing them all lit up once the weather warms up and the snow melts has been keeping me excited. I decided to go with LED lights for their energy efficiency and long lifespan. I’ve also been exploring how to integrate them with my existing smart home setup using Home Assistant.

One thing I’ve been curious about is automating the lights based on weather conditions. For example, turning them on automatically if it starts raining or if there’s lightning detected. I’ve heard that Lovelace in Home Assistant is great for creating custom dashboards, but I’m still a bit nervous about diving into text file modifications. I’ve been trying to stick to the UI as much as possible, but I know some level of customization might require more advanced setups.

I’ve also been experimenting with creating a gradual lighting sequence for the walkway lights. The idea is to have them dim up slowly as someone approaches the house, creating a welcoming ambiance. I’ve set up a basic script using time triggers and brightness adjustments, but I’m still tweaking the delays and transitions to make it feel just right. It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together once everything is up and running.

If anyone has tips or suggestions for optimizing outdoor lighting automation, I’d love to hear them! Whether it’s about energy efficiency, integration with weather sensors, or creating smooth lighting transitions, I’m all ears. Looking forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses!
