I recently completed setting up my outdoor lighting system, and I’m thrilled to share my experience! 
One of the features I’ve been most excited about is having my outdoor lights automatically change based on holidays, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Here’s how I made it happen:First, I researched compatible smart bulbs and outdoor lighting systems that support scheduling and color changes. I settled on a combination of Philips Hue and some budget-friendly RGB strips. The Hue bulbs offered reliability and integration with my existing smart home setup, while the RGB strips added a festive touch for special occasions.I started by mapping out all the holidays I wanted to include—everything from major events like Christmas and Halloween to smaller ones like Valentine’s Day. Using Home Assistant, I created custom automations for each holiday. For example, during Halloween, the lights switch to orange and purple hues and flash in sync with spooky music. Christmas brings warm whites and occasional red accents, perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere.One challenge I faced was ensuring smooth transitions between colors and schedules. I experimented with different transition times and found that slower transitions (around 10-15 minutes) looked more natural and less jarring. I also set up a fallback routine in case the main automation failed, ensuring the lights would default to a neutral setting until the issue was resolved.The result has been absolutely delightful! My neighbors have complimented the lights, and it’s been a joy to watch them change with each passing holiday.
