Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with setting up a stable network for my smart home devices. I recently decided to upgrade my home with several smart devices, including lights, plugs, and thermostats. However, I encountered a significant challenge with network instability, especially when managing multiple devices.Initially, I followed various guides that suggested ensuring sufficient routers for end devices. But in my case, the issue was the opposite—I had too many routers! I started with around 26 routers and noticed that adding more than 20 caused the system to slow down and become unstable. Simple actions like turning off a light took between 0.5 to 30 seconds, and I frequently received timeout errors. After extensive research and testing, I realized the problem was rooted in the mesh network configuration. I began by disabling the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band to avoid interference and ran a PTP (Path Through Powerline) test for over an hour. However, this didn’t resolve the issue. I then decided to reduce the number of routers to a manageable count, ensuring each device had a stable connection without overloading the network.Another crucial step was optimizing the placement of my Homey Pro 2023. By centralizing it on the first floor and strategically positioning other devices, I improved signal strength and reduced latency. I also updated the firmware and ensured all devices were on the latest version to eliminate any compatibility issues.Through trial and error, I discovered that balancing the number of routers with the network’s capacity was key. I now maintain around 15 routers, which allows for smooth operation without compromising stability. Additionally, I implemented regular network resets and monitoring to preemptively address any issues. This journey taught me the importance of careful planning and continuous monitoring when setting up a smart home. While it was challenging, it also highlighted the potential of smart devices when configured correctly. I hope my experience can help others avoid similar pitfalls and enjoy a seamless smart home setup!Best regards, [Your Name]
