I just moved into a new house, and I’m completely overwhelmed by the number of control panels and different brands of alarm systems and home automation devices left by the previous owners. There’s an ADT system, which seems to be the most recent installation, but there are also two Honeywell control panels and four Comelit control panels scattered around the house. I’m not sure what these control panels are managing, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to integrate them or decide which one to stick with. The ADT system appears to be the most recent install, but I’m concerned it might be proprietary and could prevent me from switching systems in the future. The Honeywell panels are a mystery to me—I’m not sure what they control or if they can be integrated with the ADT system. The Comelit brand is European, and I’m not sure if it’s outdated or if it’s even used much in the U.S.My main needs are a centrally monitored system to get a certificate for insurance, safeguarding the front door (and maybe one other door and a window), and while home automation isn’t a necessity, it would be a nice bonus for the future. I’m also considering the possibility of blowing everything up and starting fresh with Surety or Alarm.com.I appreciate any advice or insights you can provide to help me navigate this convoluted setup. Should I go with the path of least resistance and sign up for basic monitoring with ADT? Or is there a way to make use of the Honeywell panels? I’m really not sure what the best approach is, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
