Unfortunately the P100 seems a step backwards to me in the sense of design of the case.
The stickers to attach it to the door/wall whatever are on the top and bottom of the device.
The battery compartment is between those two stickers.
Meaning when you need to replace the battery you have to completely detach the device and find alternative attachment stickers (once the spare two are used).
The old buttons/sensors had a circular sticker which when stuck somewhere allowed you to twist the sensor, the battery cover then remained stuck to the wall and you could replace the battery in the device.
Or the old door/window sensors allowed you to pry off the back again leaving the back stuck and removing the front portion.
I’m not sure why something with a replaceable battery hadn’t considered its mounting options.
Has anyone had any bright ideas to bypass this flaw, as mine also fell from height when the stickers just gave up sticking, something I’d like it not to do frequently.
Hello, this topic has already been raised on the forum. The safety certification of the P100 forces the device to be powered without the ability to quickly remove the sensor from the mounting location.
Additionally, the following statement was made by the user MakerMing of the Aqara team:
Personally, I’ve moved my sensor a few times and reused the original adhesive pads without any problems. While you’d normally use isopropanol to completely degrease the surface for a perfect hold, I wouldn’t recommend doing that here. If you don’t clean the spot completely perfect, the adhesive bond is just weak enough that you can easily pull the sensor off later when you need to change the battery.
As an alternative, you can also swap the included adhesive pads for Nano-Tape, which doesn’t rely on chemical adhesion but grips using microscopic structures. Velcro tape is another great option to make removing the sensor completely hassle-free. However, I strongly advise against using magnetic tape, as the magnetic field will interfere with the sensor’s open/close detection.
