P2 motion sensor battery replacement

Hi all

Anyone got any advice how to change batteries easily on the P2 PIR motion sensor? Seems really difficult and too much prodding and poking seems to cause damage.
Tried to find a YouTube video but they all seem to talk about the P1.

@nstockley Hey there! Totally get the frustration — the P2 battery swap can feel fiddly at first, but it’s actually pretty straightforward once you know the trick.

The key is using a small flathead screwdriver on the gap in the battery cover to pry it off gently. Then, insert the screwdriver into the battery compartment lever opening to lift out the whole compartment — that’s the part easy to miss if you’re just prodding around the edges.

Once it’s out, you’ll need two fresh CR2450 button batteries — one with the positive side facing the compartment top, the other with positive facing the bottom. Then just align the arrows when snapping the compartment back in and press the cover on.

Aqara has an official installation video for the P2 specifically here if you want a visual walkthrough: https://www.aqara.com/en/product/motion-and-light-sensor-p2-installation-video/

Hope that saves your sensor from any more poking! Let us know how it goes.

thank you.
The video makes it clearer.
Its still very tricky depending on the angle when its stuck to the stand!

@nstockley Glad the video helped clarify things! You’re absolutely right though — the angle can definitely make it trickier when the sensor is mounted on the stand. A few things that might help:

  • If possible, gently rotate or detach the sensor from the holder first to give yourself better access to that battery compartment lever opening
  • The holder gap is designed to face upward for easier adjustments, so that orientation might give you a bit more room to work with

It’s one of those “easy once you know how” things that the P2 design doesn’t exactly make intuitive. Your feedback about the real-world fiddliness is super valuable — these are the details that don’t always come through in polished install videos.

If you keep running into issues or notice any damage from the prodding, definitely reach out to the support team. And hey, thanks for coming back to share how it went — always helpful for the next person wrestling with the same stand angle problem
