POE or Battery on new Cameras?

I’m switching from Arlo pro 2 with battery — to Aqara outdoor camera setup. Trying to determine which route to go. Do you prefer the POE or Battery on the new outdoor cameras?

@jessejamesyoung When deciding between PoE (Power over Ethernet) and battery options for your new Aqara outdoor cameras, it’s important to consider the specific features and benefits each option offers.

The Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro, which can serve as an outdoor camera, is available in a PoE version. This option provides a stable and reliable connection, as it uses a wired Ethernet connection for both power and data transfer. This can be particularly advantageous in areas with weak Wi-Fi signals or for installations where you want to avoid frequent battery changes.

On the other hand, a battery-powered option, like the Arlo Pro 2 you are familiar with, offers flexibility in camera placement since it doesn’t require a nearby power source or wiring. This can be useful if you need to install the camera in a location that’s difficult to reach with cables.

Ultimately, your choice might depend on your installation needs and priorities, such as whether you value the reliability of a wired connection or the flexibility of a wireless setup. If you’re looking for an outdoor camera with excellent image quality and AI capabilities, the G5 Pro is a solid choice, as it also integrates well with smart home ecosystems like HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences with either option, as it might help others in the community who are facing a similar decision!

I can recommend the G5 POE :ok_hand:

If you’re setting up a system to only record short clips when infrequent motion is detected you can get away with battery power but if you want it linked up to an NVR and recording constantly PoE is the only way to go.
