POE power for G400 but still use WifI for data

Can I use POE just for powering the doorbell? I want to use WiFi for data but get power from a POE adapter that came with another piece pf kit…

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Yes, you can use POE power and WiFi connection. You just need to remove the information channels, use only 48 volts. I used a POE power supply during testing. The main thing is not to forget about the power of the power supply, the quality of the G400 depends on it.

Okay, I will bite and attempt to learn something new today.

Why would we want to do this?

I think the reason may be security.

G400 doesn’t support any authentication over Ethernet, so you just have a handy access to your home network for anyone on the street (if anyone removes the G400). Of course, it’s not a common scenario, but not everyone wants to test how uncommon it is.

There are means to secure the network and separate the Ethernet on the outside from the rest of the network, but not everyone knows how or wants to invest their time and money into this topic. Especially if they know they may miss something and it won’t be fully secure (or they think it won’t be and don’t know if they covered all the cases/“security holes”)
