Positive Experience with Shelly Plus Uni and Hörmann Promatic 4

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a positive experience I had with the Shelly Plus Uni and the Hörmann Promatic 4 garage door opener. After reading through various forums and seeing others struggle with similar setups, I thought I’d document my success in case it helps someone else!

I’ve been looking for a reliable way to integrate my garage door into my smart home setup. The Shelly Plus Uni (Gen 2) turned out to be the perfect solution. It’s important to note that this is not the older Shelly Uni without the Plus, so make sure you’re getting the right one!

The installation process was straightforward. The Promatic 4 has convenient terminals under a small flap on the side of the unit, so I didn’t even need to open it up. I simply connected the Shelly Plus Uni to the appropriate terminals:

  • Pin 1 (VAC1) to Pin 5 (24V)
  • Pin 2 (VAC2) to Pin 20 (0V)
  • Out 1 to Pin 21 (Signal Channel 1)

I also made sure to isolate the contacts to prevent any accidental short circuits. The Shelly app allows you to configure the switch duration, and I set it to close for 1 second before opening again. This ensures the door remains responsive at all times.

One thing I’m still working on is getting feedback on whether the door is open or closed. I’ve heard about the Hörmann Universal Adapter Plate UAP 1 HCP, but it’s a bit pricey and I’m not sure if it’s compatible with the Shelly. For now, I’m considering adding a magnetic contact switch to the Shelly’s IN1 or IN2 inputs. If that works, I’ll definitely share the details!

Overall, I’m really happy with how this setup is working. It’s been reliable, and I love the convenience of controlling my garage door from my smartphone or through voice commands. If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to integrate your garage door into your smart home, I’d highly recommend giving the Shelly Plus Uni a try!

Happy tinkering!
