Positive Experience with Smart Plugs and Family Automation

I recently had the pleasure of integrating a Wyze Switch and Plug into my dad’s home setup, and I wanted to share my experience. My dad has Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia, so creating a smart, scheduled environment has been incredibly helpful for both him and my mom, who is his primary caregiver.

The challenge was to make a reading light easily accessible without relying on a remote control, which my dad often misplaces. After some research, I decided to use a Wyze Switch and Plug combination. The idea was to control the light with a wall switch, which is more intuitive for him.

I extended an existing switch box to add the Wyze Switch, ensuring the wiring was safe and adhered to local electrical codes. I also made sure to pigtail the constant hot wire and tie into the neutral bundle, as this setup wouldn’t directly control the power but would instead communicate with the Wyze Plug.

The installation went smoothly, and the result has been fantastic! My dad can now easily turn the light on and off using the wall switch, which is much more user-friendly for him. The setup has also made it easier to schedule the light to turn on at specific times, providing comfort and routine for my dad.

This experience has taught me the importance of choosing the right devices for specific needs and how a little creativity can go a long way in making technology accessible to everyone. If anyone has similar projects or tips, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s keep innovating for accessibility and comfort in our homes. :star2:
