I recently installed the PowerG Wireless Door/Window Sensors and wanted to share my experience and some tips for anyone considering these sensors.
First, I was impressed by the 3M VHB tape that came with the sensors. It’s incredibly strong and durable, which is perfect for my home where I have both smooth and textured surfaces. However, I did a bit of research and found that purchasing a roll of 3M VHB tape separately can be more cost-effective if you plan to install multiple sensors. Just make sure to cut it to the right size to avoid waste!
One thing I noticed is that the adhesive can lose its stickiness over time, especially if you frequently remove and reapply the sensors. To combat this, I recommend cleaning the surface thoroughly before reapplying the tape. A lint-free cloth with a bit of isopropyl alcohol works wonders. This ensures the tape adheres properly every time.
I also experimented with different installation techniques. For example, placing the sensor slightly higher than eye level helps prevent accidental triggering from pets or drafts. Additionally, I found that angling the sensor slightly inward improves detection accuracy, especially for doors that swing inward.
If you’re planning to repaint your window trims, as I did recently, I suggest removing the sensors a few days before painting. This gives the paint time to cure and ensures a smooth surface for reinstallation. When reattaching, I found that using a small ruler to align the sensor perfectly with the trim made a big difference in the overall look.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the PowerG Door/Window Sensors. They’re reliable, easy to install, and integrate seamlessly with my smart home system. If you’re looking for a solid door/window sensor solution, I highly recommend these!
