Good afternoon,
I’m having trouble with my humidity sensor. I keep it in the water softener to monitor the salt level; it alerts me when it’s sitting in water (meaning I need to refill the salt), but the problem is that it constantly disconnects. I reset it, it stays connected for a couple of days, and then it disconnects again. The hub is quite close by, and I’m at a loss as to what to do.

The salt water environment may be the cause of the repeated disconnections.
Although the Aqara Water Leak Sensor has an IP67 rating, this protects it against short-term immersion. It may not be suitable for continuous exposure to brine. Salt water is highly corrosive and may eventually affect the sensor contacts or battery connections. Water, wet salt and the walls of the water softener can also weaken the Zigbee signal, even when the hub is nearby.
I suggest removing the sensor from the water softener, drying it completely and checking the battery compartment and metal contacts for corrosion. Replace the battery if necessary and test the sensor outside the tank for several days. If it remains connected there, the environment inside the softener is probably causing the problem.
A possible long-term solution is to keep the Water Leak Sensor outside the tank and connect two external corrosion-resistant probe wires to the contact screws underneath it. Only the ends of the probes need to be placed at the desired water level. This keeps the sensor dry and should also improve its Zigbee connection.
