Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with automating my projector using Homey and Logitech Harmony Hub. It’s been quite the journey, but I’m thrilled to say I figured it out!
So, the setup: I use the Harmony Hub for IR support and Homey for more advanced automation. I wanted to integrate my projector into an activity flow, but there was a catch. The Harmony Hub shuts off all devices when ending an activity, and my projector takes a while to power on/off. I didn’t want to miss out on the convenience of Homey’s flows, so I decided to create a workaround.
I set up a flow that detects when a Harmony activity starts and then triggers another flow to power on the projector. I also included some additional functionalities, like dimming the lights and closing the curtains, to make the experience seamless. Everything worked perfectly when I manually launched the secondary flow, but there was a hitch—when the first flow triggered the second one, the projector wouldn’t start. Other actions, like turning on the lights, worked fine. It was puzzling!
After some research and troubleshooting, I realized the issue was with how the flows were communicating. I adjusted the flow logic to ensure the projector received the power-on command directly without any delays. The key was to simplify the communication between the flows and make sure the projector had enough time to respond.
Now, it all works like clockwork! The projector powers on seamlessly when the activity starts, and everything shuts down neatly when it ends. It’s such a relief to have this automation working perfectly. I can now enjoy my movies and gaming sessions without any hassle.
