I’ve always been fascinated by DIY projects, especially those that combine technology and creativity. Recently, I decided to take on a fun project: creating a pulsating blacklight effect using my smart home setup. I wanted to see if I could make neon-colored objects glow in a way that was both cool and functional. ![]()

Here’s how I approached it:
-
Research and Planning: I started by researching how blacklights work and how they can be integrated with smart home devices. I found that pulsating effects can be achieved by controlling the light’s brightness through a smart hub or app. I decided to use my existing Govee lights since they’re compatible with both Alexa and Google Home, and they have the necessary RGB capabilities.
-
Setup and Challenges: The first challenge was figuring out the right settings to create the pulsating effect. I experimented with different brightness levels and transition speeds. It took a few tries, but I finally got the smooth pulsating effect I was aiming for!

-
Integration with Smart Routines: I wanted this project to be more than just a cool light show, so I integrated it into my daily routines. Now, the pulsating blacklight automatically turns on when I activate my “Night Mode” routine, creating a relaxing ambiance in my living room.

Sharing the Fun: I love sharing my projects with the community! If you’re interested in trying something similar, here are a few tips:
- Start with a simple pulsating effect before adding colors.
- Use RGB lights for the best results.
- Experiment with different timing settings to find what works best for you.
This project was a great way to explore the creative possibilities of smart home technology. It’s amazing how something as simple as adjusting light settings can make such a big difference in your space. Thanks to everyone in the community for the inspiration and support! ![]()
