Hi everyone, I thought I’d share this experience in case others might find it helpful. I use Home Assistant at two locations—one with a Raspberry Pi 4 and the other with a Raspberry Pi 3B+. While the Pi 4 has been running smoothly, the Pi 3B+ instance was experiencing periodic freezes. Both setups use an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 without issues, but the Pi 3B+ would go offline every 3-4 days, requiring a power cycle to restore service.
Both devices are hard-wired to the router, and I use static IPs, so it wasn’t a DHCP-related issue. The Pi 3B+ and an Asus router were placed very close together, to the point where they were touching. I suspected that the router’s RF might be interfering with the Pi, so I moved the Pi to another shelf about a foot away. Since that move, the Pi 3B+ has operated flawlessly for the past three weeks without any freezes or lockouts.
While this isn’t a scientific assessment, the change in reliability seems to correlate with moving the Pi away from the router. If anyone else is experiencing their Pi going offline periodically, you might want to check if it’s in very close proximity to your router. Sometimes, a simple adjustment like this can make a world of difference!
Best regards,
