Reducing Camera False Alarms with UV LEDs

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a solution I found for reducing false alarms on my Blink cameras caused by flying insects. Every 2 seconds, the camera would trigger due to bugs flying past, which was draining the battery life and was really annoying. I tried adjusting the activity zones as much as possible, but it didn’t completely solve the issue.

After some research, I discovered that insects are attracted to certain wavelengths of light. I decided to try using UV LEDs in the 395nm-405nm range to redirect their attention away from the cameras. I set up a small LED array about 5 feet away from the camera and powered it with a 12VDC supply. It’s still early, but I’ve noticed a significant reduction in false triggers.

This solution might not work for everyone, but I thought it was worth sharing in case it sparks some ideas for others. If anyone has other methods or improvements, I’d love to hear about them!
