Reducing False Alarms with Dual Motion Sensors

I’ve been experimenting with motion sensors in my basement, and I wanted to share my experience in hopes it might help others facing similar challenges. While my Fibaro motion sensors have been reliable, I’ve noticed occasional false alarms, especially during the night. After some research, I decided to implement a dual-sensor setup to minimize these false triggers.

Here’s how I approached it: I installed a second motion sensor at a different angle from the first. The idea is that both sensors need to detect motion within a short timeframe for an alarm to trigger. This method has significantly reduced false alarms, as random triggers from one sensor alone are now ignored.

To configure this, I used VeraPlus with the latest firmware. I set up scenes to arm and disarm the sensors at specific times, which works seamlessly with my daily routine. The key was ensuring both sensors communicate effectively and that the system accounts for both detections before activating the alarm.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar issues. Have you found effective ways to reduce false alarms? What configurations or devices have worked best for you? Let’s share our experiences and tips to help each other create more reliable systems!
