Repurposing Car Mirror Buttons for Smart Home Control

Hey everyone! I came across an interesting challenge that I wanted to share with you all. My house doesn’t have a garage, but I have this fancy mirror in my Prius with buttons meant for opening a garage door. Since I don’t have a garage, these buttons were just sitting there unused. I thought, why not repurpose them for something more useful in my smart home setup? :red_car::sparkles:

I started brainstorming ways to integrate these buttons into my existing smart home ecosystem. I remembered hearing about the Bond Hub and its ability to capture and repurpose signals from various devices. Maybe I could use that to read the garage door opener signal from my car’s mirror and turn it into a control for other routines in my home. :hammer_and_wrench::bulb:

I decided to give it a try. I set up the Bond Hub and started experimenting with capturing the signal from the mirror buttons. After a few trials and some research, I managed to configure the Bond Hub to recognize the button presses and link them to specific routines in my smart home app. Now, pressing those buttons can turn on my living room lights, start my coffee machine, or even play my favorite playlist! :tada:

It’s been such a fun project, and it’s amazing how a simple idea can lead to something so practical. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips on how to improve this setup even further. Happy tinkering! :rocket:
