Roller Shade Driver E1 worked 6 months, replacement died after 2 days – same fault, same blind

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a serious issue with my Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 and I’m hoping someone here has seen this before.

My setup:

  • Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1
  • Zigbee network via Home Assistant
  • Roller blind: 1400mm wide × 1600mm cassette blind

The problem:
No buttons respond at all – not even a 10-second reset. The motor does nothing. The device shows a brief blue flash on power-up, then solid red light for 1-2 minutes.

What makes this unusual:

  • My first E1 worked perfectly for over 6 months on the same blind
  • I replaced it with a new E1 – the replacement unit developed the exact same fault after just 2 days
  • Both units are completely unresponsive, no reset possible

Since the first device worked fine for 6 months on the same hardware, I’m struggling to understand what could cause the same fault on two different units.

Questions:

  • Has anyone else experienced this?
  • Is there a way to recover/reset the device when buttons are completely unresponsive?
  • Is there a known fix from Aqara for this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve already contacted the retailer but before replacing with a third unit I’d like to understand the root cause.

I got exactly same experience. Red light is on for 1-2 minutes after that device is not reacting at all.
