Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with using Rule Machine (RM) to control modes in my smart home setup. After struggling with Mode Manager, especially during holidays that fell on weekdays, I decided to give RM a try. And wow, it’s been a game-changer!
Here’s what I’ve set up:
- Day Mode: Activates at 6 AM on weekdays.
- Evening Mode: Kicks in 31 minutes before sunset on weekdays.
- Night Mode: Starts at 8 PM on weekdays.
- Weekend Mode: Begins 30 minutes before sunset on Fridays and runs through Sunday evening.
For holidays, I created a virtual switch called Holiday Switch. When turned on, it pauses weekday modes and switches to Weekend Mode. When turned off, it resumes weekday modes. This setup has been rock solid, but I’m curious if there’s a way to automate the holiday mode without manual input. Maybe linking it to a personal calendar?
Another thing I’m pondering: what happens if I turn off the Holiday Switch mid-day? Should it default to the next scheduled mode or just stay in Night Mode? Any tips or experiences to share would be awesome!
