I recently undertook the migration from my Hubitat C5 to C8 and wanted to share my experience, as it was surprisingly smooth! The process was straightforward, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Here’s a quick rundown of my setup and the steps I took:
My Setup:
- Hubitat C8 as the main hub
- HOOBS for integrating a few Wi-Fi devices and retaining voice control
- Lutron Pro2 Hub for my Caseta devices
- A mix of Z-Wave Plus, Lutron Caseta, and a few Zigbee devices
Migration Process:
- Preparation: I followed the official migration guide meticulously. I paused the Hubitat Maker API gateway on HOOBS, shut down my C5, and removed its IP address reservation on my network router.
- C8 Setup: After connecting the C8, I let it acquire an IP address, registered it, and restored my cloud backup. I then set up a static IP for the C8, mirroring my previous setup.
- Reintegration: I restarted the C8, powered back up my Lutron Pro2 Hub, and re-enabled the necessary LAN integrations. Everything fell into place without a hitch!
Results:
- The migration took less than 20 minutes!
- All devices, including locks and motion sensors, are functioning perfectly.
- Voice control via iPhones and Apple Watches works seamlessly.
- I noticed improved response times for some devices, which is a delightful bonus!
Tips for Others:- Backup Early: Ensure you have a solid cloud backup before starting.
- Static IPs: Manage IP reservations carefully to avoid conflicts.
- Test Integrations: After migration, double-check all integrations, especially voice controls and third-party apps like HOOBS.
I’m thoroughly impressed with Hubitat’s support and the C8’s performance. If you’re considering an upgrade, I highly recommend it! ![]()
