Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience migrating from Vera to SmartThings. It was a bit daunting at first, but I’m thrilled with the outcome! 
I decided to switch because I wanted better native support for Amazon Echo and Logitech Harmony, which Vera just couldn’t deliver seamlessly. Plus, I was hoping to integrate more easily with my Nest devices and Logitech cameras.
The process started with researching SmartThings’ capabilities and comparing them to Vera’s. I was pleasantly surprised by the range of integrations available. I began by setting up the SmartThings app and exploring its features. The widget options for scenes (which I used to call ‘scenes’ on Vera) were a nice touch, and I loved the ability to customize them further.
One challenge I faced was reconfiguring my Z-Wave devices. I had to unpair them from Vera and add them to SmartThings, which required some time and patience. Thankfully, the SmartThings community forums were a huge help, providing step-by-step guides that made the process manageable.
I also wanted to ensure that my door locks and security system would work seamlessly. After some research, I found that SmartThings supports a variety of locks and security sensors, which was a relief. I even managed to integrate my Logitech cameras without any issues!
One thing I particularly appreciate about SmartThings is the ease of creating routines. I set up a ‘Goodnight’ routine that turns off all lights, locks the doors, and arms the security system with just one tap. It’s incredibly convenient and has already saved me a lot of time.
I also tried out the SmartThings widget on my Android home screen. It’s fantastic for quick access to my most used devices and routines. I can’t believe how much smoother my daily interactions with my smart home have become.
Overall, the migration was worth the effort. SmartThings has exceeded my expectations, offering a more intuitive and feature-rich experience than Vera. I’m excited to continue exploring all the possibilities it offers!
