Hi all, I’m reaching out to this wonderful community to seek some advice on my smart home setup. I’ve been experimenting with various devices and automations, but I’m encountering a few challenges that I hope you can help me with.
First, I’ve been using ESPHome to control a linear actuator for my TV unit. It’s been working flawlessly for about nine months, but I recently tried updating the ESPHome device through Home Assistant and encountered an error. The error message mentions something about the ‘state’ member not being found in the TemplateCover class. I’ve included the full error log and my ESPHome configuration file for reference. Any pointers or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Second, I’m trying to set up mobile notifications for a door contact sensor using an ESP32. The sensor state changes are reflected on the Home Assistant dashboard, but I’m not receiving any notifications on my Android device. I’ve included the automation configuration I’m using. If anyone has successfully set up similar notifications, I’d love to hear about your setup or any potential pitfalls I might be missing.
Lastly, I’m curious about the best practices for automating lighting based on time of day. I have a setup with IKEA motion sensors and would like to adjust the brightness of my lights during different times of the day—maximum brightness during the day and a softer glow at night. I’m open to suggestions on how to achieve this, whether through Home Assistant automations, third-party apps, or other creative solutions.
I’m really enjoying the journey of building out my smart home, but these hurdles are keeping me from fully realizing my vision. I’m hopeful that the collective wisdom of this community can help me overcome these challenges. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!
Best regards,
