Hi all, I’m thrilled to dive into the world of smart home technology, though I must admit, it’s a bit overwhelming with so many options out there! I’m currently setting up my smart home ecosystem using Hass.io on a Raspberry Pi, paired with ESPHome for some DIY projects. So far, I’ve managed to get a basic LED strip up and running using an ESP32 D1 Mini, but I’m eager to expand this setup with some smart sockets and switches.
My main goals are to keep things affordable and ensure everything operates offline, as my internet connection can be a bit unreliable. I’ve heard that TP-Link sockets aren’t the best fit for Hass.io anymore, so I’m on the hunt for alternatives. I came across the BG-Electrical sockets, which seem promising, but from what I gather, integrating them with Hass.io might be a bit of a challenge. Are there other budget-friendly options that anyone would recommend?
Switches are another area I’m looking to explore. I’ve heard great things about Shelly products, but I’m curious if there are locale-specific options that might be better suited for the UK market. I’m particularly interested in solutions that don’t require a neutral wire, as that’s something I can’t easily access. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be invaluable!
I’m also considering adding a flood sensor to my setup, so if anyone has tips on integrating that with the rest of my system, I’d be grateful.
